Moving Mountains and students from the University of Bristol have been running free, annual community medical clinics in the Nepali Himalayas since 2010. These medical camps are based in two beautiful villages, Bumburi and Bupsa, and have supported the development of a successful health programme and helped Moving Mountains to develop and build a permanent health clinic in Bumburi village.
Each year students from the University of Bristol fundraise for and travel to Nepal to run a medical clinic with Moving Mountains. This is supported and supervised by Nepalese doctors and dentists with experience in running rural medical clinics. In previous years over 1,000 people have been seen in 10 days, with people coming from miles around. The clinics aim to see as many people as possible to provide free medical and dental treatment and advice. We also aim to provide basic medical education, such as first aid skills, oral hygiene education and other primary healthcare advice. Medical data is also collected to help gain a better understanding of the most common health issues in the area, to inform effective and targeted preventative and treatment strategies.

This 19 day trip involves travelling into these villages to help run the medical and dental clinic, alongside a Nepalese doctor, dentist and nurse. The trip offers a unique and fascinating insight into rural healthcare in Nepal, and many people choose to combine this with further travel in Nepal and South East Asia.
The trip includes a beautiful trek through the Himalayan foothills to reach the villages. The medical clinic involves seeing patients, collecting data and providing basic medical education.
You will stay in the villages, and students are always welcomed into the local community.
The trip is suitable for undergraduate or postgraduate students studying medicine or dentistry or anyone interested in community health - you don't need to be a medical or dental student. The programme is designed so that you are giving a valuable service but also gaining a fantastic experience. The most important characteristics you need are openness, willingness to learn and take part, enthusiasm, and a sense of curiosity. Your experience simply as a person from another culture will give you an enormous amount to share with local people.
