Visas & entry requirements

Visitors to Nepal must be in possession of a valid passport and a visa for Nepal. Your passport should be valid for the full duration of your stay in Nepal and must be valid for at least 6 months when you submit your application for a visa. Please see the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website for up to date information regarding visas and entry requirements for Nepal.

Visas can either be obtained from the Nepalese embassy in London prior to departure from the UK or on arrival in Nepal (NB some nationalities must obtain their visas from a Nepalese Embassy prior to departure). To minimise time spent queuing at the airport, get a visa before you travel. Visas on arrival are available at Tribhuvan International Ariport and some land borders.

Please read the comprehensive and up to date information about visas for Nepal on the Adventure Alternative website, including what you'll need to have with you to buy a visa on arrival, the address to write on your forms, and how to go about obtaining a visa before travel.

A lot of people travelling to Nepal decide to go to India before or after Nepal for independent travel. If you decide to fly into India you MUST organise your Indian visa BEFORE you leave the UK. Please see the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Indian High Commission and India visa application centre websites for the most up to date information regarding visas and entry requirements for India, as requirements frequently change. To travel to India, you must also have a machine readable passport.

Please allow plenty of time to get your India visas as they can take a few weeks to process.
